Alpha Review

What did I think of...

Alpha by Jasinda Wilder

Description:
The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.

If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?

I did.

The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."

A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."

The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.

And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."

Would you have gotten in?

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.

Wow, that description from above sounds juicy doesn't it? I though so, too. When I saw this on the Kindle Deals on BookBub for free, I was absolutely thrilled that I was able to get my dominant kink fetish in for free... but it was better than that. The description... mm-mmm. I get shivers just reading the description... which usually heralds very good things!

I immediately started reading, causing the avalanche of a traffic jam in my Goodreads account when I was reading three books. Doesn't that gif above just make you want to smile? It has more truth to it than I care to admit, and not just with this book...

However, once I started sporadically reading this, bouncing around between three + books... reality slowly sank in. Our main character, Kyrie, was a source of constant frustration. I can put up with a lot from my characters. Fucked up, whacked thinking; twisting shit in their heads; refusing to see what's right in front of them; foolishness; blind faith; almost anything.

Except, total naïveness. Is that how you spell it? Naïvness? Naïve-ness? Whatever. Anyway, Kyrie knew she was being impractical, and fell in love with a guy, blindfolded, having never seen him, without knowing his name, the color of his eyes, whether he was 80, 12, or 36.

Kyrie, also, had these loooong stretches of contemplation, and explanations of her actions and thoughts. This, I know, was the writer's fault, not the characters, but this caused skimming.

I've only read one other book by this author, Stripped. It, much like this book, was very entertaining, but entirely impractical and frustrating. Jasinda Wilder seems to have a gift. She writes shitty books with interesting plots... and manages to have the reader coming away with a smile, and uplifted mood, and positive thoughts on the book.

I almost didn't rate this book due to my indecision, but when in doubt, talk rant it out with others who understand. Literally, this is the life of a bookworm.

I can't say if I recommend or not, but I will tell you that there was a complete sex overload, was very smutty, leading to uncomfortable reading ;), but I still enjoyed it, despite it's crappiness.

Yes, I think I'm mad too.

Golden Dynasty was pure gold. Yes, I'm saying that because of the title, but I'm also saying it because its true. The writing, as usual, was so smooth, and so real, and so raw, enabling me to feel this book deep. \

Golden Dynasty had a lot of themes that I, and fellow readers, I'm sure, will struggle with. Such as men holding power over their women, rape, and other culturally and morally offensive themes.

When reading this book, you do have to remember that the culture of this book, Korwahk, is totally different in all ways and is meant to be more primal and animalistic, and in some ways, it made this book infinitely sweeter, and raw.

I'm writing this review some two weeks after I read the book, and I'm still having trouble getting my thoughts together, (and remembering things I wanted to say), but all I can really tell you with this one, is it is totally worth it. This is one of those books that you just delve into, neglect the world, and don't come up for air until its done (or your bladder demands you to). Some readers, I know, struggled with some of the context, but I was not one of those. I think some people need to remember, that these contexts are part of the book, and you and the character's struggle with them is the whole point of the story!!

This is definitely one of those magical Kristen Ashley reads, that I just can't even articulate how amazing it was...

I leave you with a few quotes from the book! Enjoy and read it tomorrow!

This is my Circe by the way!! ;)

Short Story Erotica Reviews

Short Story Erotica Reviews

Hey guys, due to my impromptu holiday that I took this last month, I've been reviewing in bundles. For this post, I will be reviewing all of the short story erotica reviews that I never reviewed this past month, leaving me uncomfortably aroused ;)
Enjoy

Orgasmic Anthology

This book, was probably the most interesting of the bunch, which is what I start with. It sprung from a delicious idea- a book that explores every type of orgasm! Not read as a theology paper, instead a series of short, sexual encounters, it was very interesting and filled this dirty mind with dirty ideas.

Roid Rage by Alice May Ball

This book, I read based on curiosity. Turns out, it was a complete sex-novel. Belle's boyfriend abandoned her, so she takes up a Biker's proposition to service them at their clubhouse in the middle of the desert, and then about what happens. It's not there wasn't any other choices! But, shocker!, she finds she enjoys her new job!

Owning his Bride by Sue Lyndon

Disclaimer: I know how this sounds, but Owning his Bride is actually a science-fiction novel. Our heroine is a prisoner on a planet for a crime she didn't commit and the warden of the prison beats her (lots)! When a warden or guard completes five years serving at the prison, they are rewarded with large sums of money, and they get to choose a female from the prison to be his wife. This wife would have no rights and the male could do whatever he chooses to this prisoner. Our heroine, Becca, is terrified that the Warden will choose her after his month is up, and he would, but our hero, Hunter, chooses her instead. This a romance, not a macho "I own you", but there is lots of spanking for disobedience, and a doctor's examination based mostly on sexual preferences to see if she was a good choice for our guard. This a hot, hot, hot short story romance, with not great writing.

Huddle: Sex with Sporty Queers Anthology

This book was entirely guy-on-guy, and some of them were just strange, however there were one or two that were fairly enticing to read....

As of late, like the whole month of May and some of April, I haven't been posting :(. But, I'll have you know that I do have a perfectly good excuse... familial issues.
This summer, that will not happen. It is my goal to post at least once a day... and you will hold me to that, right guys?

Thanks and kisses,
Kat

Quick Fire Reviews

Here are some of the "Highlights" of May that I read! As it's bee too long, I don't want to chance a full review for each of these and totally botch them! You understand. ;)

Accidental Assassin (The Assassins #1) by Nichole Chase

Accidental Assassin was an absolutely phenomenal read! I loved how Chase didn't focus too much on the "Mystery and Crime", totally eclipsing the romance and "changing" part of the story.

Ava and Owen really were very sweet together, and I loved that though the author didn't shine light on the fact that Owen was changing, gaining emotions and becoming (literally) Killer Boyfriend material, she showcased it beautifully. Also Ava's acceptance of all things Owen was fun to read, and the non-hysterics that Ava portrayed were just a blessing from heaven. The only worse than crying with your characters, is crying at your characters because all they're doing is "woe-is-me-ing" and having just a generally sob-orgy the whole book. 4.5 stars!

On the Fence by Kasie West

On the Fence was a fun, flirty and thought-provoking YA read, that I thoroughly enjoyed. I've read A Distance Between Us by Kasie West, as well, it's just one of those book that you just love and go back to and read again and again and again, laughing and crying the whole book!

On the Fence was a book about the main character, Charlie, finding out who she was. It was a literal Growing Pains book. Raised by a single dad and three older brothers, Charlie is the total tomboy, refusing to accept anything but a win, and often times that's what she gets. But, there's also that honorary fourth brother from next door, Braden, that doesn't seem such brotherly material anymore. Also, there's this secret about her mother's death that no one seems to want to tell her! On top of that, Charlie is lying to her family about her "side life". In order to pay off a speeding ticket, Charlie is forced to work in a very girl boutique- Clothes! In order to work there, Charlie can't wear cut offs and a jersey, and is thrust in a world of glitter and giggles! Join Charlie on her journey to find out who she wants to be, who she is and who she already is. 4 stars!

Garrison's Creed (Titan #2) by Cristin Harbor

Okay, Garrison's Creed was really awesome. I have to say, I think the overall plot of the story was more exciting to me than the actually book itself, but I'm getting giddy just thinking about it.

Nicola and Cash were the classic girl/boy-next-door, brothers-best-friend, friends-to-lovers-to-love trope. But when Nicola got into something deep involving the Mob, she had to go into Witness Protection, staging her death and leaving everything (and everyone) she knew. Cash ended up going into the Military and getting involved in an elite military group that's only a legend beyond those who know of its existence... the Titan Group. Now, Cash is a sniper for Titan, and Nicola an Field Agent in the CIA, Cash ends up killing Nicola's mark. Cash finds out she's alive... and thus begins the CIA/Titan partnership to root out a mole hidden within International Terrorists and Homegrown Mobsters. But now that Cash has Nicola back after he buried her years... he's not letting her go. The two of them together was super sweet, and I highly recommend it! 4 stars!

Winter's Heat (Titan #1) by Cristin Harbor

Ok, so I'm weird. I read book two Garrison's Creed before book one, Winter's Heat. Whoops. By the way, Winter's Heat is currently free on Amazon!! Back to the story... Winter's Heat was actually really good, also. More of a solo mission than Garrison's Creed is, but it was still very enjoyable!

Colby Winters is on his way to an easy In and Out mission... turned explosive when he rescues kidnapped Mia Kensington. Fighting the attraction to the sassy shrink, as well as trying to keep her alive is proving a greater challenge than Colby anticipated. With torture, babies, three little words meant for a little girl, bombs and numerous gunfights, Winter's Heat incorporates more action than Garrison's Creed, while still maintaining the sweet and sultry, slow-burn romance that's sure to captivate! Highly recommended! 4 stars!
