Superstitions are unsubstantiated beliefs that certain events and items can effect the outcome of things usually directly related to luck (both good or bad). It's a cause and effect type of belief system. For whatever reason (I personally believe it's because it's fun) these little ditties have been passed down from one generation to the next and seem to have found a permanent place within our society.
